SIMPLE STEPS TO HOSTING YOUR DINNER GATHERING
Casual or fancy, big or small.....YOU are in charge of it all!  It's very simple and all that matters is you:
  • Say "YES" to a fun and different way of fundraising
  • Gather friends around a table
  • Share a meal
  • Simply ask for a donation in return to support H.U.G.S.
  • Choose a Saturday works best for you.
The money you raise from your dinner gathering supports H.U.G.S. (Healing and Understanding of Grief from Suicide), a well established 501c3 nonprofit organization founded in 2003, that provides a bi-monthly support group to Survivors of Suicide Loss and support response to individuals and families in crisis in the aftermath of a loved one’s suicide.  In addition, H.U.G.S. provides educational resources and suicide prevention presentations in select Mecklenburg County elementary and high schools.

You saying "YES" will help bring awareness to suicide prevention, life saving resources and professional counseling and support programs available to those struggling.

WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU SAY "YES"
The 'Dinner with Friends' gathering you choose to host will support H.U.G.S. effort to broaden it's reach and bring additional resources to the Greater Charlotte area to include:
  • Establishing a healing space for counseling and supportive resources
  • Providing more free workshops and educational programs for individuals impacted by suicide
  • Broadening support services provided to healthcare professionals dedicated to work in suicide prevention, crisis response and healing
  • Increasing the number of suicide awareness and prevention educational programs

WHY H.U.G.S. IS SO IMPORTANT TO SURVIVORS OF SUICIDE LOSS
  • Each year 44,193 Americans die by suicide
  • For every suicide 25 attempt
  • Suicide is the 10th leading cause of death in the US
  • Every 15 minutes someone in the US dies by suicide - Every 16 minutes someone else is left to make sense of it.
- American Foundation For Suicide Prevention - Suicide Statistics
In the United States alone, nearly 40,000 people a year die by suicide. Each of these leaves behind an estimated six or more “Suicide Survivors” — people who’ve lost someone they care about deeply and are left grieving and struggling to understand.

Survivors of Suicide Loss often find individual counseling and suicide support groups to particularly helpful.  Read more.
